Editorial Policy
The AASFAA Advocate is the primary means of communication with all association members. Its purpose is to inform the membership of association activities, to provide federal legislative and regulatory updates, to provide a space for comments on the trends in financial aid from members of the profession, and to provide information that the Newsletter Committee deems beneficial to the membership at large. While AASFAA is supportive of the many vendors and sponsors, newsletter articles are not designed to enable vendors to promote products and services, except through paid advertisements. All articles will be edited by the AASFAA Newsletter Committee for appropriateness for the general membership. Each issue of the AASFAA Advocate will be reviewed and approved prior to final production by the Newsletter Committee and the current AASFAA President. Questions regarding this policy should be addressed to the Editor.

President's Letter

Brad Honious

Well, my year is winding down quickly, especially since we are not having a spring conference. A new election will soon be held to fill positions on the executive board for the 2004-2005 year. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone in the association to make sure their voting member takes the time to vote in the AASFAA upcoming elections. I also encourage each of you to volunteer for a committee next year. I originally became involved with the organization by serving as a volunteer and truly believe it has made me a better administrator. Besides, you make great long-lasting friendships and professional contacts.

The association is gearing up to host the WASFAA conference in May by offering a number of scholarships to assist members who would like to attend. I again encourage you to apply for one of the individual scholarships and the institutional scholarship for the conference.

The web-based Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) is moving forward and a special thanks to Becky Vinzant of Educaid in her tireless efforts to see the project through. AASFAA will lead the way in assisting our Native American population with an easy and efficient process to achieve financial assistance opportunities to attend college. We appreciate Becky’s efforts and encourage you to contact her if you wish to assist in making this project a reality. Becky can be reached at (217) 352-1952 or via email at Rebecca_vinzant@educaid.com.

I encourage the membership to get involved with the Legislative Affairs Committee. Dr. Jay Siska and Ken Clarke have been doing an outstanding job moving this committee to the forefront of AASFAA. Gear up and join the committee and look for exciting opportunities to join forces to make a difference in higher education in Arizona. I appreciate all the hard work and research this committee is doing and I intend to take a more active role with this initiative as Past President.

And what can be said about the Membership Training Committee? The organization should be very proud of the great training sessions presented this year. The sessions have been very well attended and great appreciation should go out to the presenters and the committee.

All of our committees should be patted on the back. Volunteerism is what makes our organization continue to be a great association. Thus, the message for this year is to become involved and
volunteer some time to work with great people helping to develop other great people.

My Best,
Brad
